Oh April, you rainy month you. Even with all of the rain we got in Chicago, I still managed to enjoy the warmer weather, celebrate the grand opening of Forget Me Knodt’s Uptown shop, get inspired at Moxie, enjoy spring’s beautiful flowers and get featured on Style Me Pretty! I am excited to see what May brings…

My boyfriend recently treated me to one of the most amazing meals I have ever experienced and because it was so amazing, I wanted to share it with you too.
Next Restaurant’s latest Vegan menu is up and running and we got to go to opening night! As you might already know, Next restaurant is a 4 star restaurant in Chicago’s Fulton Market and they reinvent themselves every few months by creating a completely different menu. Chef Grant Achatz is the creative genius behind it all and while I have been obsessed with this concept for awhile, this was the first time I was able to go.
If you have plans to go check out Next’s vegan menu and want to be surprised, consider this your SPOILER ALERT and you should probably stop reading now. While I didn’t photograph every dish that came out, I tried to keep up as much as I could.
Enjoy!

It turns out burnt avocado spread is best served on a giant rock.

Tempeh and dehydrated greens.

Artichokes on fire.

Apple & lichen deliciousness.

Science!

Here is my handsome dinner date and some lichen.

This was a wild mushroom farro risotto and it was one of my favorite dishes.

Curry, harissa, cauliflower and naan. Yes. Please.

It turns out that olive oil jam and chocolate go oh so well together.

Dessert no. 2: an assortment of all things delicious… even ‘ice cream’ hidden inside a chocolate nugget.

Dessert no. 3: a tower of steamed pancake, passionfruit and chocolate lava ‘crepes’.

And here we are over three hours later… happy, full and trying to keep track of everything we just ate.

Woo hoo, babies first photo session is up on Style Me Pretty’s beautiful blog today. I am beyond excited & honored to join the ranks of such amazing talent that Style Me Pretty features on their site daily.

In March, I got a new passport for my upcoming trip to Bali, had a super fun engagement photo session in Logan Square, spent some quality time with family, said goodbye to Charley dog, enjoyed the longer days combined with warmer temperatures and celebrated my 9 year anniversary with my boyfriend. I’d say that is a success.

Erin & Luke are getting married this August in Watervliet, Michigan’s Millcreek Barn. Since they aren’t getting married in Chicago, they wanted to take some engagement photos around their Logan Square neighborhood and this past week, we did just that.
These two were so much fun and I had a blast working with them.
Congratulations, you two!

Next, we stopped over by their favorite Logan Square spot, Longman & Eagle!

Then we were off to snowy (& sunny) Palmer Square for a few more photos. How adorable are they?

Thanks for spending your Sunday afternoon with me, guys!
Another month has passed which means there is another set of a photos for you to see…

It’s no secret that I love a good snow. So when it snowed during my photo session with the talented jewelry designer behind Alex Kelley Jewelry a couple of weeks ago, I was absolutely ecstatic. We headed over to a park near Chicago’s Lake Michigan and took advantage of the beautiful gray winter’s day. It was chilly, but Kelley was a trooper and stuck with it and I couldn’t be happier.
Take a look!

In 2011 I took a photo a day and posted them to Flickr. It was surprisingly tough to keep up with it, but when I finished I absolutely loved looking back at my year through the lens. It was so fun to take a moment to reflect on all of the moments that would normally pass right by.
This year I decided to take another crack at it but with my phone (and Instagram). Crazy? Maybe, but so far so good! Come follow along on Instagram.
Without further ado, here are the first 31 photos from Project 365, part deux.

Things are quiet here and I am playing catch up after my crazy (& exciting) autumn. I hope this winter is treating you well so far. Stay cozy.

I met this wonderful family of three (soon to be four) at Angela and Ryan’s wedding back in April where they asked if I’d photograph them. We met in Chicago’s Millennium Park where we got lucky and found some color in the trees even though it was November. I couldn’t ask for a better way to close out 2012.
Here are a few of my favorites from our little photo session. Enjoy!

Look at that smile!

Thanks so much for letting me photograph your family, it was a blast!
